Michael Jones, Creative Copywriter and Brand Strategist

I’m that guy who’s always scribbling ideas, packaging concepts and telling stories to connect to audiences. I never thought I’d get to do it for a living though. But here I am!

As a creative copywriter, brand strategist, fruit snack addict, and founder of The Stylish Standout, I help professionals, side hustles and entrepreneurs fast-track their transformation through branding and verbal identity. I also manage The Standpoint, a branding and business blog, written from my distinct point of view.

My last “corporate” job was as assistant digital style editor at the now-defunct, where I reported and edited features on product launches, emerging designers, and on-brand collaborations; edited trend- and market-based shopping guides; and wrote “Ask Michael,” a weekly style-advice column. And I loved every single nanosecond of it.

Prior to LuckyShops, I crafted e-commerce copy for, Harper’s BAZAAR’s e-commerce destination, and served as contributing fashion assistant at Lucky, editing the home and tech markets and coordinating all still-life photography for the magazine.

Before relocating to New York City to pursue (and achieve!) my life-long dream of becoming a fashion editor, I was a corporate trainer for a start-up financial services company. I developed, designed, and delivered dynamic curriculum on topics including talent and performance management, diversity and equality, leadership, process improvement and quality assurance, and steered corporate strategy across several business lines.

I studied journalism at Texas A&M University-Commerce and was born and raised in Dallas, where my obsession with skinny pants began.

SKINNY PANTS: I’m meticulous about the hem of my signature silhouette stopping precisely above the ankle. It’s serious business.

BOOKS (AND MAGAZINES): After a pitstop at the Union Square Greenmarket, a typical Saturday afternoon includes a visit to Barnes & Noble.

THE DALLAS COWBOYS: Some of my fondest memories growing up are of my Dad and I settling in after Sunday dinner to watch our ‘Boys. Into adulthood, my avidity for #CowboysNation hasn’t diminished one bit.

VOLUNTEERING: Service is an essential part of my life. Through my church (First Corinthian Baptist Church in Harlem), and personal and professional networks, I contribute my time and resources to create the change I want to see in the world.

NOTEBOOKS: Despite my loyalty to all things Apple, I’m pretty old school when it comes to business. Give me a classic Moleskine Ruled Notebook in black, and I’m good to go.

CHICKEN WINGS: Drums > Flats. Don’t debate me.

Now that you know more about me, tell me something about you! You’re always welcome to email me at I’m on social too: Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook are my where you can typically find me.
