Whether you just graduated or you’ve been out of school for a while, there will always be an inherent urge to defend, protect and cheer on your alma mater. Even if you can’t spend every game day tailgating and cheering on your team from the bleachers, it can be fun and exciting to channel your inner fan and reflect that on your appearance.
I just graduated this May, and I’m constantly facing reminders that things are so different after graduation. I got an email the other day encouraging me to buy alumni season tickets to my alma mater’s football games, and suddenly the realization that I wouldn’t be cheering my team on in a sea of other Mizzou fans hit me. I may not be chanting “M-I-Z, Z-O-U” while walking into our stadium this fall, but I still want to represent my pride wherever I may be. If you work in an office or don’t want to look too obnoxious, subtle cues through shoes, accessories and the right splashes of color will keep your pride strong even when you’re miles away from the big game.
» Show your spirit in your shoes. Shoes are the perfect way to incorporate the tone of your outfit. A good heel makes casual joggers look runway chic. Classic loafers take your cardigan from school uniform to office classic. Adding your school colors in neat preppy stripes (precious bow is optional) or showing your crest in a beautiful flat can be a simple way to incorporate your spirit.
» Show your spirit in your arm candy. Bracelets are such a great accessory for their versatility. They can stand alone as a statement, or be stacked for a thorough look. Simple jewelry is a testament to your fandom that can be sported on any day without looking childish and unprofessional, or can be paired with a school-color infused outfit for that extra touch of “Go, team!”
» Show your spirit in subtle clothing cues. Wearing your favorite jersey, jeans and face paint aren’t exactly an option when you have a 9-to-5 job or if you’re going out to a nice dinner, but that doesn’t mean your work or play attire can’t include subtle cues to your school allegiances. Something about sporting your game-day hues makes missing out on tailgating and group chants that much easier. Pair a solid shift dress with a fierce blazer, or look for some mascot influenced items. If your team are represented by tigers, gators, etc, wearing the print of these animals is a subtle homage to your favorite mascot that can be paired with simple pieces for a look that works for game day or every day.
